Did you know that the litter, leaves, sediment, and chemicals that get washed down storm drains flows directly into the Jordan River and its tributaries? These pollutants and organic matter have a major negative impact on water quality. #LoveYourWatershed is an initiative created by the Jordan River Commission that invites all members of our community to learn more about our stormwater system, and get involved in improving our water quality.
Here are 5 Easy Actions:
- Clean up around storm drains at home and work
- Always pick up your pet’s waste
- Avoid using fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides
- Take your car to an eco friendly car wash
- Minimize salt and deicer use in the winter
#FirstFriday
Our #FirstFriday cleanup challenge started in 2020 when we were unable to do group cleanups at the Jordan River. We challenge community members to get out into their own neighborhoods to clean up trash, and debris from their local storm drains on the First Friday of every month.
2024 First Friday’s:
- November 1
- December 6
Second Saturdays
The Jordan River Commission has partnered with the Utah Department of Transportation to hold monthly cleanups along major roadways that cross the Jordan River and at trailheads and along the trail and river.
