2024 Get to the River Festival

About the Festival

The Get to the River Festival is a month of events and activities each September across the 50-mile Jordan River Parkway. It includes diverse outdoor recreation, conservation, arts and cultural, and social experiences that spark discovery, stewardship, creativity, and fun. The Festival is organized and promoted by the Jordan River Commission and Jordan River Foundation. Events and activities are organized and hosted by dozens of local partners and communities across the Wasatch Front region. Thousands of individuals and families turn out each year to participate. The Festival highlights this amazing slice of nature through the most urbanized and populated region of Utah’s Wasatch Front. It connects people with some of the things that matter most – family and friends, nature and wildlife, community and culture – and creates wonderful memories.

About the Jordan River and the Parkway

Utah’s Jordan River flows north from Utah Lake through 16 cities in Utah, Salt Lake, and Davis counties, and into the south shoreland areas of Great Salt Lake. The river — known as Pia Okwai (Big Flow) by the Indigenous Shoshone and Goshute people — is an important riparian area that provides critical habitat for hundreds of species and millions of migratory birds. It has provided many kinds of sustenance through thousands of years of human history. The Jordan River Parkway today is a 50-mile ribbon of parks, trails, and natural lands connected by the Jordan River. It has tremendous ecological, cultural, recreational, and economic value.
