Paddle the River Series – Week 1

Join the Jordan River Commission for Week 1 of the Paddle the Jordan River Series. The Jordan River Commission has a limited number of boats available to borrow, or you can bring your own but space is limited and registration is required for every participant.

  • Start Location: Inlet Park, Saratoga Springs
  • End Location: Willow Park, Lehi City
  • Distance: 3.8 miles
  • Paddle Duration: 2 hours
  • Description: This section of the Jordan River is gentle and wide with few navigational hazards.

Participants should:

  • Have no major health concerns that would interfere with paddling
  • Be physically fit enough to paddle and help unload and carry boats
  • Be comfortable around water, and have basic swimming skills
  • Have basic understanding of paddle skills and technique.
  • Provide cell phone number and have fully charged phone at event in case of emergencies
  • Properly wear life jacket and follow all safety instructions given by the Commission.

Age Restriction:

  • All participants under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian participating with them.
  • If borrowing boats from the Jordan River Commission:
    • No Children under 5.
    • Children 5 and older can be passengers.
    • 12 and older can paddle canoe with an adult.
    • 16 and older can paddle alone in kayak.

What to wear/bring: 

  • Sturdy water shoes (no flip flops) 
  • Clothing that can get wet
  • Sun, rain or wind protection
  • Sunglasses, hat
  • Full water bottle, snack
  • Fully charged cell phone 
  • Medication you may require

We will Provide (unless you are bringing your own): 

  • Boat and paddles (with registration)
  • Personal Flotation Device
  • First aid kit
  • Extra sunscreen 
  • Dry bags and water proof phone carrier

Safety:

  • We will review basic paddling skills, but this is not intended to be an educational course. Check out the Educational Video Collection from the American Canoe Association to help you prepare. You can also watch the Jordan River Paddle Video Series created by Troy Adair to become familiar with each section of the Jordan River that we paddle.
  • Participants are responsible for their own safety, please consider your own abilities and comfort level before signing up. While these paddle are a good entry into paddling the Jordan River, they are not an education course.
  • If we get to a point during the paddle where conditions may require exiting the river, we will do that as quickly and safely as possible. 
  • WE WILL CANCEL THE PADDLE AND NOTIFY PARTICIPANTS if the forecast is unsafe for paddling. 

Transportation Info: 

  • Participants provide their own transportation to and from the event.
  • Meet at the launch location on time to coordinate a shuttle to the takeout.
