Utah Lake is the third-largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River, and it is a premier destination for boating, sailing, fishing, birding, and many other uses. Utah Lake is a focal point of natural resource systems that contribute to the environmental health, economic prosperity, and quality of life of area residents and visitors. As such, sustainable management practices are needed to ensure that the natural and cultural resources of Utah Lake are maintained for current and future generations.

FFSL is tasked with administering state lands under comprehensive land management programs using multiple-use, sustained yield principles. The primary purpose of the Utah Lake Comprehensive Management Plan is to guide FFSL, along with other local, state, and federal partners, in managing, allocating, and appropriately using Utah Lake’s sovereign land resources. The Utah Lake Comprehensive Management Plan sets forth defined management goals, objectives, and implementation strategies for guiding and directing resource management actions, activities, and recreation uses on Utah Lake. The Utah Lake Comprehensive Management Plan will also provide decision support tools for FFSL in its continued role in the administering and issuing permits, leases, rights of entry, or easements and the potential sale of any Utah Lake Authority land.
