The Jordan River Parkway trail offers a unique biking experience through the heart of the Salt Lake Valley. Spanning 46 miles, this paved multi-use path provides a scenic route along the Jordan River, connecting various parks, natural areas, and urban centers. Cyclists of all skill levels can enjoy the relatively flat terrain, making it ideal for leisurely rides, family outings, or longer training sessions. The trail’s accessibility, combined with its diverse landscapes and points of interest, makes it a popular destination for both local residents and visitors looking to explore the beauty of the Jordan River corridor on wheels.

  • Stay Right, Pass Left: Keep to the right side of the trail and always pass on the left. Announce your presence when passing (e.g., “On your left!”).
  • Yield to Pedestrians: Bicyclists should yield to pedestrians.
  • Control Your Speed: Adjust your speed to conditions and maintain a safe distance from other trail users.
  • Use Lights at Night: If biking during dawn, dusk, or at night, ensure your bike has a white front light and a red rear reflector or light.
  • Wear a Helmet: Helmets are strongly recommended for all cyclists.
  • Be Predictable: Ride in a straight line and avoid sudden swerving. Use hand signals when turning or stopping.
  • Respect Wildlife: Maintain a safe distance from any wildlife encountered on the trail. Do not feed animals.
  • Pack It In, Pack It Out: Do not litter. Dispose of all trash in designated receptacles or take it with you.
  • Stay on Paved Trails: Do not ride off the designated paved trail to protect sensitive natural areas.
  • Be Aware of Your Surroundings: Avoid using headphones that block out ambient sounds, and be alert for other trail users, obstacles, and potential hazards.
  • Carry Water and Supplies: Ensure you have enough water, snacks, and basic repair tools for your ride.

Class 1 e-bike, which is pedal assisted only (i.e. – you must pedal to operate, with no throttle and a maximum speed of 20 mph).

  • How long is the Jordan River Parkway trail?
    • The main trail is 46 miles long. Some sections have secondary trails, and the network of interconnected trails is ever-expanding.
  • Where does the Jordan River Parkway trail start and end?
    • The south end of the trail starts at Inlet Park in Saratoga Springs.  The north end of the trail ends at Porters Landing Boat Take Out.  
  • Is the Jordan River Parkway suitable for all levels of cyclists?
    • The Jordan River Parkway Trail is generally flat and suitable to all levels of cyclists. The Bluffdale and Lehi sections include inclines that may be challenging for beginners.
  • Are there any fees to use the Jordan River Parkway?
    • There are no fees to use the Jordan River Trail, Water Trail, and adjacent parks. However, events along the Parkway may require permits, and parks often require fees to be paid to reserve pavilions. Refer to our Event & Permitting Guide for more information about planning events.
  • Are there restrooms or water fountains along the trail?
    • Restrooms or water fountains can be found at most parks along the trail. However, many restrooms close during colder months from October to April to avoid issues with freezing pipes. Check with local jurisdictions for details.
  • Are dogs allowed on the Jordan River Parkway?
    • Dogs are allowed, but must be leashed. Unleashed dogs may result in citations.
  • Are there any rules or regulations for biking on the Jordan River Parkway?
    • Yes, follow standard multi-use trail etiquette (stay right, pass carefully) and abide by any local municipal rules, since different segments are maintained by different jurisdictions.
    • The trail is a non-motorized, paved trail system.
    • Bikes are allowed, and e-bikes are allowed but must be ridden using the pedals instead of the throttle since motorized vehicles are not allowed.
    • Dogs must be on leash along the trail.
    • Yielding and trail etiquette: 
      • Pass slower trail users with caution
      • Keep right except to pass
      • Observe speed limits where applicable
  • Where can I access the Jordan River Parkway?
    • There are many access points/trailheads throughout the length of the trail. The trail is a 45-mile, multi-use trail that parallels the Jordan River from Utah Lake to the Great Salt Lake.

    • You can pick the segment you wish to ride (north, middle, or south) and find a nearby trailhead with parking or transit access.
  • Are there bike rental options near the Jordan River Parkway?
    • Yes, several bike rental businesses service the trail. 
    • GREENbike Stations: There are dozens of GREENbike stations in the Salt Lake area, which are part of a Utah nonprofit rideshare program. The locations closest to the trail are:
      • 1200 W North Temple Station
      • 855 California (1350 S) Avenue Station 
    • Pedego Electric Bikes South Jordan: E-bike rental located right on the Jordan River Trail in South Jordan
    • SLC Bike Rentals: Located about a 20-minute pedal from the Creekside Park in Sandy 
    • Canyon Sports: Located about a 12-minute ride from the 9th South River Park in Salt Lake
  • Is the Jordan River Parkway open year-round?
    • While the trail is open year round, winter maintenance of the trail can vary by jurisdiction.
